We are very pleased to let you know that the recommendations from CARP NS re Diabetes Drugs for seniors have been accepted and initiated by the NS Dept of Health. You will recall I spoke on behalf of the Diabetes Association about this at our Holiday Social. Ron and I have been spending many hours on this, so we are very pleased with the result. The Government does listen to CARP NS and, sometimes like this, reacts positively.
CARP led this work alongside the Diabetes Association and the Atlantic Cardiovascular Society (with funding for a survey of physicians by Boehringer Ingelheim). CARP was involved in face-to-face advocacy meetings with Government officials and then lobbied Seniors Advisory Council to sign on to a letter CARP drafted. See attached the letter, the announcement and copy of the new form.
We will now continue to liaise with the Diabetes Assoc. and Atlantic Cardiovascular Society to watch for 6 months and then review if the uptake from physicians has improved with this change.
